Narrative:

Preparing to descend for landing at ump, I entered clouds topping at 13000 ft. Upon entering, I immediately began to accumulate rime ice. Within 3 mins I amassed 1/2 - 3/4 inches. I contacted ZID, advised them of the situation, and asked for an immediate descent. I waited, they advised 'stand by.' I got more ice. I called center again, no immediate response. I began descent and left turn to where I had previously seen an open area in the clouds. I was later cleared to 8000 ft, then later to 6000 ft, and finally to 4000 ft (VFR conditions). I canceled IFR and proceeded to ump.
