Narrative:

When west of mcb proceeding eastbound first officer's CDI (course/deviation indicator) heading flag appeared. Captain selected first officer/CDI control switch to alternate on the CDI control panel. First officer heading flag disappeared. Captain reselected normal but turned switch too far, disconnecting autoplt. When autoplt reconnected captain failed to reselect auxiliary navigation for course navigation and aircraft drifted 8 mi off course.
