Narrative:

Scheduled flight number was changed from abxy to agxy. I believe there was a change of tail numbers because the originating flight abxy was late. The problem arose when our flight abxy was holding short of runway 24L at lax as the late flight abxy was landing runway 24R and holding short of runway 24L downfield. Although the flight number changed on the release, dispatch failed to notify the pilots on our crew, and los angeles clearance delivery. Also, our operations agent failed to notify us. Our first indication was both flts being contacted by lax tower with some confusion on tower frequency.

FLC FAILED TO NOTE THE NEWLY ASSIGNED FLT NUMBER WHEN SIGNING THE RELEASE. TWR WAS CONFUSED.

Narrative: SCHEDULED FLT NUMBER WAS CHANGED FROM ABXY TO AGXY. I BELIEVE THERE WAS A CHANGE OF TAIL NUMBERS BECAUSE THE ORIGINATING FLT ABXY WAS LATE. THE PROB AROSE WHEN OUR FLT ABXY WAS HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 24L AT LAX AS THE LATE FLT ABXY WAS LNDG RWY 24R AND HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 24L DOWNFIELD. ALTHOUGH THE FLT NUMBER CHANGED ON THE RELEASE, DISPATCH FAILED TO NOTIFY THE PLTS ON OUR CREW, AND LOS ANGELES CLRNC DELIVERY. ALSO, OUR OPS AGENT FAILED TO NOTIFY US. OUR FIRST INDICATION WAS BOTH FLTS BEING CONTACTED BY LAX TWR WITH SOME CONFUSION ON TWR FREQ.
