Narrative:
We were running late due to a late hotel pickup. Our passenger was early and wanted to leave right now! We hurried to get the airplane ready and did manage to depart on time. Our flight was from hpn-gon. The controller spoke very rapidly and the first officer asked for a repeat of the clearance, which the controller gave and acknowledged the first officer's readback as correct. The first officer briefed me on the clearance as I was not in the aircraft when he got the clearance. It did not occur to me that there was no SID assigned and I was still a bit preoccupied with placating our passenger. We departed the ramp on time and were cleared for takeoff a couple of mins later. The takeoff clearance gave no SID, heading or altitude instructions, so I turned direct to cmk after cleaning up the gear and flaps. We called ny departure passing 2700 ft MSL, at which time he asked us where we were going and to what altitude. We read him the clearance westchester clearance had given us. He said, 'you didn't get the westchester 9 departure?' we said no. He asked if tower had given us 3000 ft for an initial altitude. Again, no. We leveled at 4000 ft and asked departure what he wanted us to do. He said he needed us on the westchester 9. We asked for an initial move while we pulled the charts out. He gave us, 'heading 030 degrees, maintain 6000 ft.' just before switching us to the next controller, he asked us to call their number after landing. We relayed the problem to our supervisor after landing and he called the above number. Considerations: 1) confirm either a SID or specific departure instructions prior to takeoff. 2) if 1 pilot is new to the airport (like my first officer was), talk more about operational considerations there. 3) if there are sids at your departure airport, query the controller if you are not assigned a SID. 4) as much as we all want to please our passenger, don't let them rush you -- no matter whose fault it is for being late.

Title: AN ATX C560 FLC DEPARTS WITHOUT A SID CLRNC OR THE PROPER ALT ASSIGNMENT. THEY STATE THAT NONE WERE ASSIGNED, BUT THE CAPT DID NOT HEAR THE CLRNC AND THE FO WAS NEW TO THIS OP AND THEIR PAX WAS IMPATIENT.

JUST BEFORE SWITCHING US TO THE NEXT CTLR, HE ASKED US TO CALL THEIR NUMBER AFTER LNDG. WE RELAYED THE PROB TO OUR SUPVR AFTER LNDG AND HE CALLED THE ABOVE NUMBER. CONSIDERATIONS: 1) CONFIRM EITHER A SID OR SPECIFIC DEP INSTRUCTIONS PRIOR TO TKOF. 2) IF 1 PLT IS NEW TO THE ARPT (LIKE MY FO WAS), TALK MORE ABOUT OPERATIONAL CONSIDERATIONS THERE. 3) IF THERE ARE SIDS AT YOUR DEP ARPT, QUERY THE CTLR IF YOU ARE NOT ASSIGNED A SID. 4) AS MUCH AS WE ALL WANT TO PLEASE OUR PAX, DON'T LET THEM RUSH YOU -- NO MATTER WHOSE FAULT IT IS FOR BEING LATE.
