Narrative:
Upon liftoff at anc, stick shaker activated and indicator bar in HUD and ADI was very erratic. Stick shaker continued. First officer was flying and stated, 'aircraft was flying normally.' captain verified first officer's assessment with xchks of other flight parameters. Notified tower that a return for landing was necessary and no further assistance required . Pulled #1 stall system circuit breaker to deactivate stick shaker. Uneventful normal landing and return to gate. Mechanics found left aoa vane damage. Prior to boarding, gate agent and a mechanic conferred about location of jetway to the aircraft and first officer did not notice any damage to aoa vane during his walkaround preflight inspection.
