Narrative:
I was new to part 135 and I had received some confusing information on duty time. My understanding was that as long as I did not exceed 8 hours I was ok. I accepted a flight that would leave at XA50 in a different aircraft. While preflting I noted insufficient fuel. It took me 20 mins to refuel, by the time I got back to pick up the passenger I launched with insufficient time to return before XC00 (end of my duty time). Another contributing factor was a heavy rain cell that I diverted around on my return flight. I got back on the ground at XC13.
