Narrative:

I rented an aerobatic aircraft, out long beach, ca, to practice maneuvers with a friend in the practice area behind palos verdes. I was sightseeing along the coast, flying at about 800 ft, and decided, spontaneously, to do 2 aileron rolls without any warning or knowledge to my passenger. Immediately after this, I climbed to 4500 ft to practice aerobatic sequences. I used poor judgement when making the decision to perform aerobatic maneuvers below the safe and regulated altitudes. To prevent the recurrence of this situation, I would recommend that aerobatic flight schools implement a concise and serious warning outlining the rules and regulations (both in written and verbal formats) at the time a pilot rents an aerobatic aircraft. The warning could include and reinforce the safety and professional impact of violating these established guidelines. Another suggestion could be to place a placard on each aerobatic aircraft stating 'aerobatic maneuvers below 1500 ft prohibited' as another method to remind the pilot. Both of these suggestions could alleviate the pilot's desire to make spontaneous and/or last min decisions and could only aid in the pilot making more well informed decisions.

Title: PVT PLT OF AN AMATEUR BUILT ROBINSON SPORT, R2160, SPONTANEOUSLY DID 2 AILERON ROLLS WITHOUT WARNING TO HIS PAX AT AN ALT BELOW THE MSA FOR ACROBATIC MANEUVERS.

Narrative: I RENTED AN AEROBATIC ACFT, OUT LONG BEACH, CA, TO PRACTICE MANEUVERS WITH A FRIEND IN THE PRACTICE AREA BEHIND PALOS VERDES. I WAS SIGHTSEEING ALONG THE COAST, FLYING AT ABOUT 800 FT, AND DECIDED, SPONTANEOUSLY, TO DO 2 AILERON ROLLS WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR KNOWLEDGE TO MY PAX. IMMEDIATELY AFTER THIS, I CLBED TO 4500 FT TO PRACTICE AEROBATIC SEQUENCES. I USED POOR JUDGEMENT WHEN MAKING THE DECISION TO PERFORM AEROBATIC MANEUVERS BELOW THE SAFE AND REGULATED ALTS. TO PREVENT THE RECURRENCE OF THIS SIT, I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT AEROBATIC FLT SCHOOLS IMPLEMENT A CONCISE AND SERIOUS WARNING OUTLINING THE RULES AND REGS (BOTH IN WRITTEN AND VERBAL FORMATS) AT THE TIME A PLT RENTS AN AEROBATIC ACFT. THE WARNING COULD INCLUDE AND REINFORCE THE SAFETY AND PROFESSIONAL IMPACT OF VIOLATING THESE ESTABLISHED GUIDELINES. ANOTHER SUGGESTION COULD BE TO PLACE A PLACARD ON EACH AEROBATIC ACFT STATING 'AEROBATIC MANEUVERS BELOW 1500 FT PROHIBITED' AS ANOTHER METHOD TO REMIND THE PLT. BOTH OF THESE SUGGESTIONS COULD ALLEVIATE THE PLT'S DESIRE TO MAKE SPONTANEOUS AND/OR LAST MIN DECISIONS AND COULD ONLY AID IN THE PLT MAKING MORE WELL INFORMED DECISIONS.
