Narrative:

Location: at the gate at dca. FAA check airman asked for ratings and I did not have mine, unluckily. My captain was chief pilot. Luckily, another B767 rated pilot was on board to replace me for the dca-dfw leg. Before departure, I was able to call company and have a temporary certificate and medical sent to the gate at dca so I was legal for the flight/sequence. Lesson learned is to have a more fool-proof technique of ensuring I have all my paperwork in order before I begin a sequence. It is also good to know that when murphy strikes, you still have company operations available to bail you out.
