Narrative:
I was called in by XXX air carrier to inspect an oil leak coming from #2 engine. After inspection I found oil leak was from a banjo fitting on an oil sense line. I received facsimile instruction from XXX on how to replace the sense line. But the problem was that the fitting could not be replaced without taking the entire sense line out. There was no procedure to remove/replace the fitting by itself. So I followed the entire checklist for replacement of oil sense line just to replace the 'O' rings on that banjo fitting. Checklist called for pulling/tagging 4 circuit breakers, including engine ignition circuit breaker on dc transfer bus. After 'O' rings were installed per checklist I tried to motor the engine for leak check but engine would not turn. After discussing the matter with maintenance control, it was determined the checklist was in error in calling for closing the ignition AC circuit breaker prior to motoring engine. Note: checklist called for pulling ignition AC and dc circuit breakers, and in order to start or motor engine ignition dc circuit breaker must be closed prior to engine motoring. Air carrier technician center is in process of correcting this checklist.

Title: A MECH WORKING AN OIL LEAK ON #2 ENG ON A COMMERCIAL FIXED WING ACFT RPTS THE WORK JOB CARD CHKLIST IS IN ERROR.
Narrative: I WAS CALLED IN BY XXX ACR TO INSPECT AN OIL LEAK COMING FROM #2 ENG. AFTER INSPECTION I FOUND OIL LEAK WAS FROM A BANJO FITTING ON AN OIL SENSE LINE. I RECEIVED FAX INSTRUCTION FROM XXX ON HOW TO REPLACE THE SENSE LINE. BUT THE PROB WAS THAT THE FITTING COULD NOT BE REPLACED WITHOUT TAKING THE ENTIRE SENSE LINE OUT. THERE WAS NO PROC TO REMOVE/REPLACE THE FITTING BY ITSELF. SO I FOLLOWED THE ENTIRE CHKLIST FOR REPLACEMENT OF OIL SENSE LINE JUST TO REPLACE THE 'O' RINGS ON THAT BANJO FITTING. CHKLIST CALLED FOR PULLING/TAGGING 4 CIRCUIT BREAKERS, INCLUDING ENG IGNITION CIRCUIT BREAKER ON DC TRANSFER BUS. AFTER 'O' RINGS WERE INSTALLED PER CHKLIST I TRIED TO MOTOR THE ENG FOR LEAK CHK BUT ENG WOULD NOT TURN. AFTER DISCUSSING THE MATTER WITH MAINT CTL, IT WAS DETERMINED THE CHKLIST WAS IN ERROR IN CALLING FOR CLOSING THE IGNITION AC CIRCUIT BREAKER PRIOR TO MOTORING ENG. NOTE: CHKLIST CALLED FOR PULLING IGNITION AC AND DC CIRCUIT BREAKERS, AND IN ORDER TO START OR MOTOR ENG IGNITION DC CIRCUIT BREAKER MUST BE CLOSED PRIOR TO ENG MOTORING. ACR TECHNICIAN CTR IS IN PROCESS OF CORRECTING THIS CHKLIST.
