Narrative:

I departed runway 36 and was given a right turn to 2500 ft and heading 130 degrees. At about 1200 ft I was handed off to the approach controller and he cleared me to climb to 5000 ft soon after I was cleared on course (187 degrees) and I thought he gave me 10000 ft (which they do about 95% of the time). As I was climbing through 6200 ft, he asked my altitude. I responded passing 6300 ft, and at that time told me that I was only cleared to 5000 ft, but to go ahead and climb to 10000 ft. The boss was asking me questions at the same time so it is possible that I misunderstood my climb clearance.

Title: CPR TURBOPROP CLBS ABOVE ASSIGNED ALT, 5000 FT, ON DEP PROC WHEN THE FO, THE PIC'S BOSS, IS ASKING HIM QUESTIONS. PIC TELLS OF USUALLY HAVING A CLRNC TO 10000 FT ISSUED AFTER DEP.

Narrative: I DEPARTED RWY 36 AND WAS GIVEN A R TURN TO 2500 FT AND HDG 130 DEGS. AT ABOUT 1200 FT I WAS HANDED OFF TO THE APCH CTLR AND HE CLRED ME TO CLB TO 5000 FT SOON AFTER I WAS CLRED ON COURSE (187 DEGS) AND I THOUGHT HE GAVE ME 10000 FT (WHICH THEY DO ABOUT 95% OF THE TIME). AS I WAS CLBING THROUGH 6200 FT, HE ASKED MY ALT. I RESPONDED PASSING 6300 FT, AND AT THAT TIME TOLD ME THAT I WAS ONLY CLRED TO 5000 FT, BUT TO GO AHEAD AND CLB TO 10000 FT. THE BOSS WAS ASKING ME QUESTIONS AT THE SAME TIME SO IT IS POSSIBLE THAT I MISUNDERSTOOD MY CLB CLRNC.
