Narrative:
Location: jfk at gate. Upon entering the aircraft, maintenance was working on the plane and there was an open item -- 1 of 3 -- yet to be signed off. Maintenance advised us that they would have to manually close the cargo doors by jumping a 3 phase circuit breaker and would notify down-line station maintenance of their action. When I received the logbook from maintenance, I checked to see that all items were signed off but, because it was departure time and the doors were shut, I did not read the items signed off but only checked to make sure all items were signed off. It was not discovered until later in the flight that maintenance never entered the problem with the cargo doors in the logbook, or what action they took. Next time I will take the time to read and understand the open items that maintenance signs off and correlate their action with what is in the logbook.
