Narrative:
Assigned aircraft YYYY, a BAE3101 jetstream. First flight of the day for this aircraft. Completed aircraft acceptance checklist prior to departure. Observed first officer conducting exterior inspection of aircraft. Flight xyx departed ZZZ at approximately XA05 and arrived in abc approximately XD30. After engine shutdown at gate in abc, I proceeded outside the aircraft to manually turn propeller blades per company policy. While outside, I noticed items visible inside aircraft baggage pod. This seemed irregular since the station reported no items placed inside the pod and it seemed too soon for station personnel in abc to have placed any items in pod. It was suspected that the items in the pod were aircraft parts and it was further suspected that the parts were parts removed from this aircraft and not re-installed during overnight maintenance in ZZZ. Xyz's maintenance control was notified and the existence of parts in the pod was noted in the aircraft log. Maintenance personnel were dispatched to abc, parts were installed, logbook signed off. The next flight segment from abc to XXX departed late.
