Narrative:
I received clearance to taxi from the south ramp at the greater cincinnati airport to runway 27 via taxiway M. The event occurred when my student, while somewhat confused, crossed the ILS critical line at intersection M4. Ground control asked us prior to crossing the hold line if we would like an intersection takeoff. My student gave an affirmative answer (with my consent). However, the ground controller directed us not to cross the yellow line that (we) 'are crossing now.' we were then instructed to contact the tower, who then cleared us to taxi into position and hold for runway 27. The mistake was realized as soon as the controller communicated with us. The student was receiving his first dual lesson to a class C airport at the time of the deviation. The problem could easily have been avoided had we taxied to the very beginning of the runway in lieu of committing to an intersection takeoff.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: C172 IS CLRED TO TAXI FROM RAMP AREA BUT TAXIES ONTO TXWY WITHOUT CLRNC. CLRNC WAS FOR AN INTXN TKOF AND STUDENT WAS CONFUSED.
Narrative: I RECEIVED CLRNC TO TAXI FROM THE S RAMP AT THE GREATER CINCINNATI ARPT TO RWY 27 VIA TXWY M. THE EVENT OCCURRED WHEN MY STUDENT, WHILE SOMEWHAT CONFUSED, CROSSED THE ILS CRITICAL LINE AT INTXN M4. GND CTL ASKED US PRIOR TO XING THE HOLD LINE IF WE WOULD LIKE AN INTXN TKOF. MY STUDENT GAVE AN AFFIRMATIVE ANSWER (WITH MY CONSENT). HOWEVER, THE GND CTLR DIRECTED US NOT TO CROSS THE YELLOW LINE THAT (WE) 'ARE XING NOW.' WE WERE THEN INSTRUCTED TO CONTACT THE TWR, WHO THEN CLRED US TO TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD FOR RWY 27. THE MISTAKE WAS REALIZED AS SOON AS THE CTLR COMMUNICATED WITH US. THE STUDENT WAS RECEIVING HIS FIRST DUAL LESSON TO A CLASS C ARPT AT THE TIME OF THE DEV. THE PROB COULD EASILY HAVE BEEN AVOIDED HAD WE TAXIED TO THE VERY BEGINNING OF THE RWY IN LIEU OF COMMITTING TO AN INTXN TKOF.
