Narrative:
At approximately XA10 am I was PIC of atx X and was instructed by the ground controller to taxi via taxiway T, runway 22, and to hold short of runway 12R. Upon reaching the intersection of taxiway T and runway 22, the controller called and said 'atx X stop.' I stopped and acknowledged. The aircraft stopped short of runway 22 and 5- 10 seconds later a departure aircraft passed in front of us while we held short. Afterwards I was instructed to call the tower by phone and did. I spoke to a supervisor who informed me that I had misunderstood the original taxi instruction. He informed me that he had heard the controller tell me to taxi via taxiway T and hold short runway 22. I apologized and thanked him during our discussion of what had happened. I did not talk to the controller who actually instructed me. I plan to get a copy of ground control tape to verify if I was at fault.

Title: AN ATX C402 MISUNDERSTOOD TAXI CLRNC AND STARTED TO CROSS RWY 22 WITH AN ACFT DEPARTING. THE CTLR INTERVENED AND STOPPED THE ATX SHORT OF THE RWY, BUT PAST THE HOLD LINE MARKINGS.
Narrative: AT APPROX XA10 AM I WAS PIC OF ATX X AND WAS INSTRUCTED BY THE GND CTLR TO TAXI VIA TXWY T, RWY 22, AND TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 12R. UPON REACHING THE INTXN OF TXWY T AND RWY 22, THE CTLR CALLED AND SAID 'ATX X STOP.' I STOPPED AND ACKNOWLEDGED. THE ACFT STOPPED SHORT OF RWY 22 AND 5- 10 SECONDS LATER A DEP ACFT PASSED IN FRONT OF US WHILE WE HELD SHORT. AFTERWARDS I WAS INSTRUCTED TO CALL THE TWR BY PHONE AND DID. I SPOKE TO A SUPVR WHO INFORMED ME THAT I HAD MISUNDERSTOOD THE ORIGINAL TAXI INSTRUCTION. HE INFORMED ME THAT HE HAD HEARD THE CTLR TELL ME TO TAXI VIA TXWY T AND HOLD SHORT RWY 22. I APOLOGIZED AND THANKED HIM DURING OUR DISCUSSION OF WHAT HAD HAPPENED. I DID NOT TALK TO THE CTLR WHO ACTUALLY INSTRUCTED ME. I PLAN TO GET A COPY OF GND CTL TAPE TO VERIFY IF I WAS AT FAULT.
