Narrative:
Approaching las from the east over crow intersection we were cleared for a visual approach to las runway 25L at 10000 ft MSL and flying at approximately 280 KTS on the GS I began a descent on the GS without first slowing to 250 KTS. Both myself and the first officer were pre-disposed with locating traffic ahead of us and below on the approach. At 9500 ft I recognized the excessive speed and deployed speed brakes and leveled the aircraft to slow. The WX was perfect and the view over lake meade was stupendous. Both the first officer and I were lulled into complacency at that point in time. There was only one other aircraft on the approach at the time and flight was relative. The result was a momentary lack of situational awareness and compliance with procedures.
