Narrative:

On sep/tue/97 our flight was dispatched from dfw to ord. WX was cavu, arriving in chicago with little hold fuel. On descent 45 mi out, center told us to expect holding in excess of 20 mins. The captain determined only approximately 5-10 mins hold. After talking to dispatch and 10 mins passing, we began our divert to mke, still baffled by this hold issued to us in VMC conditions. While en route to mke, rockford approach told us to turn right, join ILS runway 9R at ord. Flight landed uneventfully with 6000 pounds fuels and passenger filed a complaint on why not enough fuel to hold 20 mins.
