Narrative:

In the descent on rythm arrival to msy, ZHU cleared us to cross rythm at 250 KIAS, 11000 ft. Approaching 11000 ft, changed to approach control and instructed by approach to proceed direct to kinte OM for ILS to runway 10. With commotion in cockpit (RNAV changes, briefings, etc), mistook clearance to runway 10 as clearance to 10000 ft. Resulted in descent to 10000 ft without clearance. New orleans approach questioned assigned altitude, no conflicts occurred, and approach said no problems were caused. Solutions: more attention on flight deck to clearance and more attention to use of terminology -- 'runway 10' versus just '10.' also attention to flight crew readback of 10000 ft clearance.

Title: FLC OF AN MLG OVERSHOT DSCNT ALT WHEN THEY MISTAKENLY BELIEVED AND ACKNOWLEDGED CLRNC TO DSND TO 10000 FT INSTEAD OF CLRNC FOR AN ILS TO RWY 10. ATC ADVISED THAT THERE WERE NO CONFLICTS AS A RESULT OF THIS MISTAKE.

Narrative: IN THE DSCNT ON RYTHM ARR TO MSY, ZHU CLRED US TO CROSS RYTHM AT 250 KIAS, 11000 FT. APCHING 11000 FT, CHANGED TO APCH CTL AND INSTRUCTED BY APCH TO PROCEED DIRECT TO KINTE OM FOR ILS TO RWY 10. WITH COMMOTION IN COCKPIT (RNAV CHANGES, BRIEFINGS, ETC), MISTOOK CLRNC TO RWY 10 AS CLRNC TO 10000 FT. RESULTED IN DSCNT TO 10000 FT WITHOUT CLRNC. NEW ORLEANS APCH QUESTIONED ASSIGNED ALT, NO CONFLICTS OCCURRED, AND APCH SAID NO PROBS WERE CAUSED. SOLUTIONS: MORE ATTN ON FLT DECK TO CLRNC AND MORE ATTN TO USE OF TERMINOLOGY -- 'RWY 10' VERSUS JUST '10.' ALSO ATTN TO FLC READBACK OF 10000 FT CLRNC.
