Narrative:
We took off from runway 17C at dfw and turned to a heading of 185 degrees as cleared while climbing to our assigned altitude of 10000 ft. Approaching 3000 ft MSL, we noticed a light twin pass in front of us at about 3000 ft. As we passed through the other aircraft's altitude we judged him to be about 1500 ft from us.
