Narrative:
On 14 different occasions during the month of september the airport surface detection equipment (asde) was unusable or unsatisfactory. While september is not normally a month with a high amount of fog, mist or IFR conditions, controllers were left with little or no operational support from the asde equipment. This presents an unnecessary safety hazard that should not be experienced with such new equipment.
