Narrative:
After the seat belt sign was turned off climbing through FL180 on departure from snn, 1 flight attendant seated near the r- 3 door stated that she noticed an 'unusual noise' during the final portion of the takeoff roll and gear retraction. She described this as a 'vibration.' I reported this to shannon tower, and although we hadn't noticed anything unusual in the cockpit, asked them to check the runway for debris. They reported evidence of rubber bits and pieces on the runway. Since there were no indications of damage (high wheel temperatures, abnormal hydraulic pressure, etc) I elected to continue the flight to jfk, as we were already on the nat. At jfk, requested equipment to standby, and examine aircraft for blown tires after landing. Inspection revealed that 1 tire on the body gear had thrown most of its cap. The tire did not deflate, and minor damage was done to a gear door brace which did not affect operation of the door. Aircraft taxi was normal to the gate.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF B747-100 IS INFORMED BY CABIN ATTENDANT THAT THERE WAS AN UNUSUAL NOISE AND VIBRATION ON TKOF ROLL AND GEAR RETRACTION. FLC REQUESTS RWY CHK. PIECES OF RUBBER ARE FOUND ON RWY. NO ACFT DAMAGE INDICATED IN COCKPIT. FLT CONTINUES.
Narrative: AFTER THE SEAT BELT SIGN WAS TURNED OFF CLBING THROUGH FL180 ON DEP FROM SNN, 1 FLT ATTENDANT SEATED NEAR THE R- 3 DOOR STATED THAT SHE NOTICED AN 'UNUSUAL NOISE' DURING THE FINAL PORTION OF THE TKOF ROLL AND GEAR RETRACTION. SHE DESCRIBED THIS AS A 'VIBRATION.' I RPTED THIS TO SHANNON TWR, AND ALTHOUGH WE HADN'T NOTICED ANYTHING UNUSUAL IN THE COCKPIT, ASKED THEM TO CHK THE RWY FOR DEBRIS. THEY RPTED EVIDENCE OF RUBBER BITS AND PIECES ON THE RWY. SINCE THERE WERE NO INDICATIONS OF DAMAGE (HIGH WHEEL TEMPS, ABNORMAL HYD PRESSURE, ETC) I ELECTED TO CONTINUE THE FLT TO JFK, AS WE WERE ALREADY ON THE NAT. AT JFK, REQUESTED EQUIP TO STANDBY, AND EXAMINE ACFT FOR BLOWN TIRES AFTER LNDG. INSPECTION REVEALED THAT 1 TIRE ON THE BODY GEAR HAD THROWN MOST OF ITS CAP. THE TIRE DID NOT DEFLATE, AND MINOR DAMAGE WAS DONE TO A GEAR DOOR BRACE WHICH DID NOT AFFECT OP OF THE DOOR. ACFT TAXI WAS NORMAL TO THE GATE.
