Narrative:

En route back from austin, tx, after picking up P60. Was about 75 mi out of pueblo, co, on let down to pick up fuel before continuing to colorado springs, co. Left engine began to surge and was uncontrollable. Decided to shut down and feather propeller. I informed center and asked for the nearest airport which was la junta and was given an initial heading while reprogramming GPS. Center asked if I was declaring an emergency and I replied no. Broke out of clouds at about 12000 ft and had airport in sight and made normal landing. I called center and canceled my flight plan and reported that I was on the ground at la junta. I restarted left engine and it ran fine up to 1500 RPM. I went ahead and shut down, fueled aircraft with 100 gals of gas. Observed light ice on airframe and on fuel tank vent. I cleared off ice as good as I could. Wind chill of -44 degrees F. After fueling started aircraft and let idle to warm back up to temperature. Did run-up and started takeoff roll. Left engine surged at takeoff power and attributed it to cold oil. On flight to colorado springs, left engine was starting to shake and was trailing back smoke. Adjusting the mixture ended smoking but was still running rough. Landed colorado springs and aircraft is in shop waiting outcome of their inspection on left engine.
