Location: 3 NM south of atl. Captain flying, executed go around on short final to runway 27L at atl due to MFDU (multi function display unit) alert for landing gear downlock. Overshot missed approach altitude by 400 ft. Advised atl approach and immediately returned to FL350. Accomplished checklists and landed without further incident.
