Narrative:
On spot X waiting for taxi instructions. Complied with taxi instructions from a flight that had similar call sign and had taxied onto taxiway a from the ramp. When the mistake was noticed, immediately stopped the aircraft and the ground controller gave us our flight's taxi instructions to the active runway. There was no conflict in taxiing traffic, but we did move onto a taxiway without instructions.

Title: CAPT OF AN MDT TURBOPROP RESPONDED TO THE WRONG SIMILAR SOUNDING CALL SIGN DURING TAXI TO THE RWY. HE IMMEDIATELY STOPPED THE ACFT AFTER REALIZING HIS MISTAKE AND SUBSEQUENTLY RECEIVED HIS OWN CLRNC.
Narrative: ON SPOT X WAITING FOR TAXI INSTRUCTIONS. COMPLIED WITH TAXI INSTRUCTIONS FROM A FLT THAT HAD SIMILAR CALL SIGN AND HAD TAXIED ONTO TXWY A FROM THE RAMP. WHEN THE MISTAKE WAS NOTICED, IMMEDIATELY STOPPED THE ACFT AND THE GND CTLR GAVE US OUR FLT'S TAXI INSTRUCTIONS TO THE ACTIVE RWY. THERE WAS NO CONFLICT IN TAXIING TFC, BUT WE DID MOVE ONTO A TXWY WITHOUT INSTRUCTIONS.
