Narrative:

Baggage bay 'smoke' cap light illuminated in-flight. First officer visually inspected the compartment and did not see or smell smoke or fire. Declared emergency as a safety precaution to get priority vectors for the approach in IMC conditions. With no apparent evidence of smoke we taxied to the ramp, parked away from the terminal, deplaned the passenger and had fire, rescue inspect the baggage bay. They found no smoke or fire. Warning determined to be a false indication.

Title: A JETSTREAM 3100 AT CRUISE DECLARED AN EMER AND DIVERTED DUE TO A BAGGAGE BAY SMOKE WARNING LIGHT CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE SMOKE DETECTOR.

Narrative: BAGGAGE BAY 'SMOKE' CAP LIGHT ILLUMINATED INFLT. FO VISUALLY INSPECTED THE COMPARTMENT AND DID NOT SEE OR SMELL SMOKE OR FIRE. DECLARED EMER AS A SAFETY PRECAUTION TO GET PRIORITY VECTORS FOR THE APCH IN IMC CONDITIONS. WITH NO APPARENT EVIDENCE OF SMOKE WE TAXIED TO THE RAMP, PARKED AWAY FROM THE TERMINAL, DEPLANED THE PAX AND HAD FIRE, RESCUE INSPECT THE BAGGAGE BAY. THEY FOUND NO SMOKE OR FIRE. WARNING DETERMINED TO BE A FALSE INDICATION.
