Narrative:
Fire bell and lights activated. No visual sign of flame or smoke. No erratic engine indications. Right engine secured and shut down. Memory items/checklist executed. ATC notified declared an emergency. Crew recognized, confirmed the occurrence. Continued to final destination (pit, PA). Closest route with best service for emergency already being handled, pit approach. First officer's first flight out of IOE. Snow storm/IMC during and to dusk. Pit down to 1 runway 28R with patches of ice. Crosswind 60 degrees estimated 15-17 KTS. Single engine ILS executed with no deviations and uneventful landing. Passenger debriefed at the gate. Met with local emergency ground equipment (followed aircraft to the gate). Met with company maintenance, found to be false indication, crew not informed why or how, crew did activate first bottle, shot 1 bottle. Company maintenance states no extinguisher in or around cowling, does not believe discharge occurred. Bottle psi still good, when crew activated fire bottle, fire lights did go out. Crew executed duties by the book. Never informed of final outcome.
