Narrative:
On descent into lax, we were given clearance to change from runway 25L to runway 25R. On descent, we observed amber on the TCASII and then red with a command 'climb.' as I added power and started the climb, the TCASII showed the aircraft 100 ft below and appeared directly below. We were approximately 3000 ft and climbed to 4200 ft. I thought it was probably a helicopter VFR and had passed the traffic. We started our descent. As we were capturing the GS, we once again got a warning on TCASII. We were never advised by approach control of the traffic, until I inquired. I was told that it was a commuter on a visual. I called approach control on the ground and was advised of four conflicts with the commuter aircraft. I feel I should have been advised of the traffic and that the commuter being on a visual, should have been giving me more space. We never saw the commuter.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A WDB JET ON APCH TO LAX RECEIVED A TCASII RA, SHOWING AN ACFT APPROX 100 FT BELOW THE JET. AFTER CLBING 1200 FT, THE WDB DSNDED TO INTERCEPT THE GS. DSNDING, THE JET RECEIVED ANOTHER TCASII ALERT, AND QUERIED APCH CTL. APCH CTL THEN ADVISED THE JET OF ANOTHER ACFT CONDUCTING A VISUAL APCH IN THE SAME VICINITY. CAPT CONCERNED OF NON ISSUANCE OF TFC AND THE POS OF THE OTHER ACFT.
Narrative: ON DSCNT INTO LAX, WE WERE GIVEN CLRNC TO CHANGE FROM RWY 25L TO RWY 25R. ON DSCNT, WE OBSERVED AMBER ON THE TCASII AND THEN RED WITH A COMMAND 'CLB.' AS I ADDED PWR AND STARTED THE CLB, THE TCASII SHOWED THE ACFT 100 FT BELOW AND APPEARED DIRECTLY BELOW. WE WERE APPROX 3000 FT AND CLBED TO 4200 FT. I THOUGHT IT WAS PROBABLY A HELI VFR AND HAD PASSED THE TFC. WE STARTED OUR DSCNT. AS WE WERE CAPTURING THE GS, WE ONCE AGAIN GOT A WARNING ON TCASII. WE WERE NEVER ADVISED BY APCH CTL OF THE TFC, UNTIL I INQUIRED. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A COMMUTER ON A VISUAL. I CALLED APCH CTL ON THE GND AND WAS ADVISED OF FOUR CONFLICTS WITH THE COMMUTER ACFT. I FEEL I SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE TFC AND THAT THE COMMUTER BEING ON A VISUAL, SHOULD HAVE BEEN GIVING ME MORE SPACE. WE NEVER SAW THE COMMUTER.
