Narrative:

ATIS was for 9R, 9L, 4R approach. We were vectored for downwind to 9R, heading 270 degrees down to 4000', speed reduction to 170 KTS. Northwest of field controller said he needed more room and turned us to 280 degrees. Shortly we were turned to 180 degrees and then a heading to intercept 9R localizer. During turn to 180 degrees controller asked us to increase turn rate. We told him we were turning normally and as rapidly as we could. I was flying aircraft and bank angle was 28-30 degrees. We intercepted and were cleared to 3000' and cleared for the approach. Outside of LOM deana all 3 of us called traffic at 10 O'clock high descending and turning to a easterly heading. We all agreed that XXXX airplane must be making a visibility approach to 9L. Airplane continued to east heading and lined up in front of us for 9R. Controller gave us a right turn to 180 degrees followed shortly by turn back to north, then asked if we had field in sight (we did) and cleared us for a visibility approach behind XXX. When we were given turn to 180 degrees, I estimated our distance from XXX at about 1 mi as he descended through our altitude. We turned on final and landed with no further problem. I was very concerned about the traffic sep during this approach and called chicago approach control by phone after landing. I talked to the supervisor who told me he was working with a trnee during our approach and was 'just letting him go, to see how far he would go before giving (us) a turn.' I told supervisor I didn't think much of the service we had received and that it was far below what we expect from chicago approach control. He said trnee would receive further training.

Title: FLT CREW OF WDB BEING VECTORED TO 9R FINAL AT ORD OBSERVED A PRECEDING ACFT DESCENDING THROUGH THEIR ALT APPROX 1 MILE AWAY. CAPT DISCUSSES INCIDENT WITH SUPVR AFTER LNDG. CTLR TRAINING WAS IN PROGRESS.

Narrative: ATIS WAS FOR 9R, 9L, 4R APCH. WE WERE VECTORED FOR DOWNWIND TO 9R, HDG 270 DEGS DOWN TO 4000', SPD REDUCTION TO 170 KTS. NW OF FIELD CTLR SAID HE NEEDED MORE ROOM AND TURNED US TO 280 DEGS. SHORTLY WE WERE TURNED TO 180 DEGS AND THEN A HDG TO INTERCEPT 9R LOC. DURING TURN TO 180 DEGS CTLR ASKED US TO INCREASE TURN RATE. WE TOLD HIM WE WERE TURNING NORMALLY AND AS RAPIDLY AS WE COULD. I WAS FLYING ACFT AND BANK ANGLE WAS 28-30 DEGS. WE INTERCEPTED AND WERE CLRED TO 3000' AND CLRED FOR THE APCH. OUTSIDE OF LOM DEANA ALL 3 OF US CALLED TFC AT 10 O'CLOCK HIGH DSNDING AND TURNING TO A EASTERLY HDG. WE ALL AGREED THAT XXXX AIRPLANE MUST BE MAKING A VIS APCH TO 9L. AIRPLANE CONTINUED TO E HDG AND LINED UP IN FRONT OF US FOR 9R. CTLR GAVE US A RIGHT TURN TO 180 DEGS FOLLOWED SHORTLY BY TURN BACK TO N, THEN ASKED IF WE HAD FIELD IN SIGHT (WE DID) AND CLRED US FOR A VIS APCH BEHIND XXX. WHEN WE WERE GIVEN TURN TO 180 DEGS, I ESTIMATED OUR DISTANCE FROM XXX AT ABOUT 1 MI AS HE DSNDED THROUGH OUR ALT. WE TURNED ON FINAL AND LANDED WITH NO FURTHER PROB. I WAS VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE TFC SEP DURING THIS APCH AND CALLED CHICAGO APCH CTL BY PHONE AFTER LNDG. I TALKED TO THE SUPVR WHO TOLD ME HE WAS WORKING WITH A TRNEE DURING OUR APCH AND WAS 'JUST LETTING HIM GO, TO SEE HOW FAR HE WOULD GO BEFORE GIVING (US) A TURN.' I TOLD SUPVR I DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF THE SVC WE HAD RECEIVED AND THAT IT WAS FAR BELOW WHAT WE EXPECT FROM CHICAGO APCH CTL. HE SAID TRNEE WOULD RECEIVE FURTHER TRNING.
