Narrative:
To illustrate that the CAT III status of the aircraft can be checked in cruise, I selected 'land' and the second autoplt on. The aircraft pitched down (at 2000 FPM). The first officer disconnected the autoplts and climbed to FL310. Altitude loss approximately 150 ft. ATC did not call us and we did not call ATC.

Title: LGT FREIGHTER ACFT IN CRUISE, RPTR CAPT BELIEVES HE CAN DEMONSTRATE CAT III STATUS OF ACFT, SELECTS 'LAND' AND #2 AUTOPLT ON. ACFT PITCHES DOWN AT 2000 FPM. PF FO DISCONNECTS AUTOPLT AND RETURNS TO ASSIGNED ALT.
