Narrative:
We were on our descent into pittsburgh on the nesto arrival, cleared to 11000 ft with ZOB. ATC called us to 'hurry on down through 15000 ft' for traffic when we were about 15300 ft. We repeated the 'hurry on down...' transmission, 'we' being the captain, although the transmission was somewhat garbled from ATC. It was, however, read back clearly to ATC with no response. At 13600 ft descending, ATC asked us where we were going. I responded that we were cleared to 11000 ft and were descending to 11000 ft. ATC said that we had been told to 'hold at 15000 ft.' I repeated that we thought we had been told to hurry on down through 15000 ft. We asked about traffic conflicts, etc, and were told there was none. ATC did not say 'maintain' but 'hurry on down' on the original transmission. Supplemental information from acn 395400:a learjet was behind us and needed to get down but he hurried up and descended.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ARTCC CTLR INTERVENED WHEN FLC WERE DSNDING ON A STAR ARR AND QUESTIONED THEIR ALT, AND THEN ADVISED THAT THEY HAD ALREADY GONE THROUGH THEIR ASSIGNED ALT AND THAT THEY WERE ONLY CLRED TO IT AND NOT THROUGH IT. HOWEVER, THE FLC BOTH HEARD THAT THEY WERE CLRED THROUGH IT. IN SUBSEQUENT CONVERSATION ATC ADVISED THAT THERE WAS NO CONFLICT.
Narrative: WE WERE ON OUR DSCNT INTO PITTSBURGH ON THE NESTO ARR, CLRED TO 11000 FT WITH ZOB. ATC CALLED US TO 'HURRY ON DOWN THROUGH 15000 FT' FOR TFC WHEN WE WERE ABOUT 15300 FT. WE REPEATED THE 'HURRY ON DOWN...' XMISSION, 'WE' BEING THE CAPT, ALTHOUGH THE XMISSION WAS SOMEWHAT GARBLED FROM ATC. IT WAS, HOWEVER, READ BACK CLRLY TO ATC WITH NO RESPONSE. AT 13600 FT DSNDING, ATC ASKED US WHERE WE WERE GOING. I RESPONDED THAT WE WERE CLRED TO 11000 FT AND WERE DSNDING TO 11000 FT. ATC SAID THAT WE HAD BEEN TOLD TO 'HOLD AT 15000 FT.' I REPEATED THAT WE THOUGHT WE HAD BEEN TOLD TO HURRY ON DOWN THROUGH 15000 FT. WE ASKED ABOUT TFC CONFLICTS, ETC, AND WERE TOLD THERE WAS NONE. ATC DID NOT SAY 'MAINTAIN' BUT 'HURRY ON DOWN' ON THE ORIGINAL XMISSION. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 395400:A LEARJET WAS BEHIND US AND NEEDED TO GET DOWN BUT HE HURRIED UP AND DSNDED.
