Narrative:

I was the PNF. We understood ATC told us to reduce to 210 KTS and turn left to 190 degrees. After readback of the clearance and completing the turn ATC told us to turn right to 320 degrees. He then said you guys are still going south, I told you to turn to right to 290 degrees. I feel there was a misunderstanding on the initial heading assignment. I heard and read back 190 degrees and the controller was expecting a 290 degree heading. We called ZAU on the phone and discussed the situation. They assured us that no separation was compromised and that they were not pulling the tapes.
