Narrative:
I filed for an eastbound flight to dpk. After 1/2 hour, controller came back and said that direction was unavailable. In the first contact he asked if I was using runway 27. 45 mins later, clearance was to the west to allentown, wind was approximately 10 KTS from the east. He gave me departure release clearance, void in 2 mins. I called ready runway 27 and took off on runway 9 into the approach corridor for newark where the miss occurred. (Correct for wind, but not for clearance.) I was confused by the wind direction and the controller's question and direction of use runway 27. Also time between clearance (sitting midfield) and quick release did not help. Saw other plane on climb out and turned to the west. I believe I was fixated on takeoff without a tailwind of 10 KTS for safety and short runway!

Title: PLT OF C414 DEPARTS WRONG DIRECTION ON IFR FLT AND HAS NEAR MISS WITH A GULFSTREAM DEPARTING EWR.
Narrative: I FILED FOR AN EBOUND FLT TO DPK. AFTER 1/2 HR, CTLR CAME BACK AND SAID THAT DIRECTION WAS UNAVAILABLE. IN THE FIRST CONTACT HE ASKED IF I WAS USING RWY 27. 45 MINS LATER, CLRNC WAS TO THE W TO ALLENTOWN, WIND WAS APPROX 10 KTS FROM THE E. HE GAVE ME DEP RELEASE CLRNC, VOID IN 2 MINS. I CALLED READY RWY 27 AND TOOK OFF ON RWY 9 INTO THE APCH CORRIDOR FOR NEWARK WHERE THE MISS OCCURRED. (CORRECT FOR WIND, BUT NOT FOR CLRNC.) I WAS CONFUSED BY THE WIND DIRECTION AND THE CTLR'S QUESTION AND DIRECTION OF USE RWY 27. ALSO TIME BTWN CLRNC (SITTING MIDFIELD) AND QUICK RELEASE DID NOT HELP. SAW OTHER PLANE ON CLBOUT AND TURNED TO THE W. I BELIEVE I WAS FIXATED ON TKOF WITHOUT A TAILWIND OF 10 KTS FOR SAFETY AND SHORT RWY!
