Narrative:
We departed a station with an open write-up. The write-up stated 'engine #2/#3 needs oil servicing.' I talked with maintenance control earlier about another MEL write-up and missed the open write-up. The aircraft had above the required minimum oil quantities for departure per the limitations on the aircraft. Talked with maintenance control about this after the fact and they stated this was the third time this has happened at this out station where open maintenance items were not addressed. Supplemental information from acn 397230: I inadvertently overlooked the open write-up during preflight. Discovered it upon landing. I normally check the logbook status as the first item upon entering the cockpit. In this instance, another crew member preceded me to the cockpit and took the logbook to operations to call maintenance control about a deferred item. When the logbook was returned to the cockpit, I failed to check it, except to note the inbound oil quantities noted there.

Title: A B727 WAS DISPATCHED WITH AN OPEN UNANSWERED LOGBOOK WRITE-UP.
Narrative: WE DEPARTED A STATION WITH AN OPEN WRITE-UP. THE WRITE-UP STATED 'ENG #2/#3 NEEDS OIL SVCING.' I TALKED WITH MAINT CTL EARLIER ABOUT ANOTHER MEL WRITE-UP AND MISSED THE OPEN WRITE-UP. THE ACFT HAD ABOVE THE REQUIRED MINIMUM OIL QUANTITIES FOR DEP PER THE LIMITATIONS ON THE ACFT. TALKED WITH MAINT CTL ABOUT THIS AFTER THE FACT AND THEY STATED THIS WAS THE THIRD TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED AT THIS OUT STATION WHERE OPEN MAINT ITEMS WERE NOT ADDRESSED. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 397230: I INADVERTENTLY OVERLOOKED THE OPEN WRITE-UP DURING PREFLT. DISCOVERED IT UPON LNDG. I NORMALLY CHK THE LOGBOOK STATUS AS THE FIRST ITEM UPON ENTERING THE COCKPIT. IN THIS INSTANCE, ANOTHER CREW MEMBER PRECEDED ME TO THE COCKPIT AND TOOK THE LOGBOOK TO OPS TO CALL MAINT CTL ABOUT A DEFERRED ITEM. WHEN THE LOGBOOK WAS RETURNED TO THE COCKPIT, I FAILED TO CHK IT, EXCEPT TO NOTE THE INBOUND OIL QUANTITIES NOTED THERE.
