Narrative:
At approximately XA05Z on mar/thu/98, position N2836.2 W08650.0. FL280, we received a TCASII RA commanding a descent of approximately 2000 FPM. Captain complied with the RA and the first officer notified ATC. We were slightly north of J58 on a direct clearance when we observed on TCASII an opposite direction aircraft descending through our altitude in an approximately 12 O'clock position. After the clear of conflict announcement, we returned to FL280.
