Narrative:
En route from clt-lax, was cleared to descend via the pdz 2. Before reaching pdz, approach control changed the arrival to the mitts 1 to cross pdz at 12000 ft. Cleared to descend via the mitts 1 arrival. Approaching the mitts intersection at 10000 ft, we were told that a B757, at 3 O'clock 1000 ft above, was going to follow us visually. He was going to runway 25L and we were going to runway 24R. As he was going behind and over the top of us, we got a TCASII advisory that showed +500 ft. Then we got a TCASII RA at +400 ft. The first officer was flying. I told him I had the aircraft and followed the TCASII RA. The TCASII showed a +100 ft at one time. We advised approach control of the altitude deviation. They advised that they did not know what happened but did not have a problem with it. At this time we observed the aircraft at about 9 O'clock to our position. He landed on runway 25L or runway 25R and we landed on runway 24R without further incident.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B757 ON STAR ARR WAS TOLD BY CTLR THAT ANOTHER B757 WAS GOING TO FOLLOW RPTR ACFT VISUALLY, BUT APPARENTLY IT GOT TOO CLOSE AND RESULTED IN TCASII RA AND EVASIVE ACTION BY RPTR.
Narrative: ENRTE FROM CLT-LAX, WAS CLRED TO DSND VIA THE PDZ 2. BEFORE REACHING PDZ, APCH CTL CHANGED THE ARR TO THE MITTS 1 TO CROSS PDZ AT 12000 FT. CLRED TO DSND VIA THE MITTS 1 ARR. APCHING THE MITTS INTXN AT 10000 FT, WE WERE TOLD THAT A B757, AT 3 O'CLOCK 1000 FT ABOVE, WAS GOING TO FOLLOW US VISUALLY. HE WAS GOING TO RWY 25L AND WE WERE GOING TO RWY 24R. AS HE WAS GOING BEHIND AND OVER THE TOP OF US, WE GOT A TCASII ADVISORY THAT SHOWED +500 FT. THEN WE GOT A TCASII RA AT +400 FT. THE FO WAS FLYING. I TOLD HIM I HAD THE ACFT AND FOLLOWED THE TCASII RA. THE TCASII SHOWED A +100 FT AT ONE TIME. WE ADVISED APCH CTL OF THE ALTDEV. THEY ADVISED THAT THEY DID NOT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED BUT DID NOT HAVE A PROB WITH IT. AT THIS TIME WE OBSERVED THE ACFT AT ABOUT 9 O'CLOCK TO OUR POS. HE LANDED ON RWY 25L OR RWY 25R AND WE LANDED ON RWY 24R WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT.
