Narrative:

The event started with a clearance from the miami tower to taxi into position and hold on runway 27L. An air carrier saab had just departed runway 27L on a straight out vector. We were then cleared for takeoff with instructions to turn to 290 degrees and commence the turn inside the previously departed saab which was still in sight. As we began our takeoff roll, with rated thrust set, I noticed an air carrier ATR on very short final to runway 30. I aborted the takeoff as we approached the intersection of runways 27L and 30. We rolled through the intersection as the ATR appeared to fly very nearly over us. Our speed was less than 60 KTS when we aborted. We taxied back for an uneventful departure back to pittsburgh. After landing I called back to mia tower and discussed the incident with tower supervisor. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter states the supervisor indicated they were using a pretty standard landing/takeoff procedure using one runway for takeoff and the other for landing traffic. Apparently the controller thought there was enough time for the ATR to have landed when he issued the takeoff clearance for reporter aircraft. The ATR flight crew could not even tell that the B737 was moving as his concentration was on the runway ahead. The aircraft passed barely overhead and very slightly in front of the B737. No further action was taken.

Title: FLC OF B737-200 IS CLRED FOR TKOF AND BEGINS ROLL WHEN THEY SIGHT AN ATR ON SHORT APCH TO INTERSECTING RWY. TKOF IS ABORTED.

Narrative: THE EVENT STARTED WITH A CLRNC FROM THE MIAMI TWR TO TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD ON RWY 27L. AN ACR SAAB HAD JUST DEPARTED RWY 27L ON A STRAIGHT OUT VECTOR. WE WERE THEN CLRED FOR TKOF WITH INSTRUCTIONS TO TURN TO 290 DEGS AND COMMENCE THE TURN INSIDE THE PREVIOUSLY DEPARTED SAAB WHICH WAS STILL IN SIGHT. AS WE BEGAN OUR TKOF ROLL, WITH RATED THRUST SET, I NOTICED AN ACR ATR ON VERY SHORT FINAL TO RWY 30. I ABORTED THE TKOF AS WE APCHED THE INTXN OF RWYS 27L AND 30. WE ROLLED THROUGH THE INTXN AS THE ATR APPEARED TO FLY VERY NEARLY OVER US. OUR SPD WAS LESS THAN 60 KTS WHEN WE ABORTED. WE TAXIED BACK FOR AN UNEVENTFUL DEP BACK TO PITTSBURGH. AFTER LNDG I CALLED BACK TO MIA TWR AND DISCUSSED THE INCIDENT WITH TWR SUPVR. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATES THE SUPVR INDICATED THEY WERE USING A PRETTY STANDARD LNDG/TKOF PROC USING ONE RWY FOR TKOF AND THE OTHER FOR LNDG TFC. APPARENTLY THE CTLR THOUGHT THERE WAS ENOUGH TIME FOR THE ATR TO HAVE LANDED WHEN HE ISSUED THE TKOF CLRNC FOR RPTR ACFT. THE ATR FLC COULD NOT EVEN TELL THAT THE B737 WAS MOVING AS HIS CONCENTRATION WAS ON THE RWY AHEAD. THE ACFT PASSED BARELY OVERHEAD AND VERY SLIGHTLY IN FRONT OF THE B737. NO FURTHER ACTION WAS TAKEN.
