Narrative:

On taxi out when the first officer brought up the flight controls page on the EICAS for the flight control check the right spoileron was already fully extended (uncommanded and without movement of the control wheel). Taxied back to gate and maintenance said that one side of spoileron was extended and the other was not, resulting in a twisted control surface. If this would have happened in flight it would most likely resulted in more than just a cancelled flight.
