Narrative:
We were originally cleared to FL270 but requested FL260 as a final altitude. ZTL approved and cleared us to FL260 (while climbing out of approximately FL210). Airplane climbed to about FL226 before leveling and descending to FL260. Additional factors: while climbing out of approximately FL210, after being cleared to maintain FL270, I noticed the captain pointing to altitude window with FL260 set, asking me to request FL260 as a final. When I questioned the altitude set, the captain dialed in FL270. We were then cleared to FL260 as a final but both captain and first officer did not verify FL260 set and selected in altitude window until airplane had already climbed above FL260. ATC questioned our altitude as we were leveling and descending at FL260. The captain setting an expected altitude in the window without proper verification of both crew members of correct altitude contributed to this error.

Title: FK10 ACFT IN CLB, FLC REQUESTED FL260 AFTER BEING ASSIGNED FL270. ATC AGREED, BUT FLC FAILED TO RESET THE ALT ALERT WINDOW AND CLBED 600 FT ABOVE ASSIGNED ALT.
Narrative: WE WERE ORIGINALLY CLRED TO FL270 BUT REQUESTED FL260 AS A FINAL ALT. ZTL APPROVED AND CLRED US TO FL260 (WHILE CLBING OUT OF APPROX FL210). AIRPLANE CLBED TO ABOUT FL226 BEFORE LEVELING AND DSNDING TO FL260. ADDITIONAL FACTORS: WHILE CLBING OUT OF APPROX FL210, AFTER BEING CLRED TO MAINTAIN FL270, I NOTICED THE CAPT POINTING TO ALT WINDOW WITH FL260 SET, ASKING ME TO REQUEST FL260 AS A FINAL. WHEN I QUESTIONED THE ALT SET, THE CAPT DIALED IN FL270. WE WERE THEN CLRED TO FL260 AS A FINAL BUT BOTH CAPT AND FO DID NOT VERIFY FL260 SET AND SELECTED IN ALT WINDOW UNTIL AIRPLANE HAD ALREADY CLBED ABOVE FL260. ATC QUESTIONED OUR ALT AS WE WERE LEVELING AND DSNDING AT FL260. THE CAPT SETTING AN EXPECTED ALT IN THE WINDOW WITHOUT PROPER VERIFICATION OF BOTH CREW MEMBERS OF CORRECT ALT CONTRIBUTED TO THIS ERROR.
