Narrative:
Over dqo, dca controller cleared us 'direct to acy VOR.' proceeding toward acy, at 45 DME, controller advised that we had been cleared to sie VOR. Both pilots confirmed that clearance was to acy, that was what was read back to controller. Also, other aircraft also confirmed that they heard clearance to 'acy.'

Title: AFTER THE FLC OF A DC9 FLEW 45 MI ON A DIRECT COURSE TO A VOR, ATC INTERVENED AND ADVISED THAT THEY HAD BEEN CLRED TO ANOTHER VOR. HOWEVER, THE FLC READ BACK THE CLRNC, WHICH ATC DID NOT DISPUTE, AND ANOTHER ACFT ALSO OVERHEARD ATC GIVING THE COURSE FLOWN.
