Narrative:
While taxiing out for takeoff in bwi, we were assigned runway 28 for departure. We were on taxiway a approaching taxiway east, where we should have made a left on taxiway P to go out to runway 28. I was accomplishing my taxi flow and finalizing our departure weight and speeds on taxiway a, and looked forward as we approached taxiway east. The captain and first officer were very vigilant for traffic on final, and instead of making our left on taxiway P, we continued straight ahead on taxiway east and crossed runway 28. We realized what we did but before we could say anything the ground controller told us that we had crossed runway 28 instead of making the left on taxiway P. There were no aircraft on final or taking off on runway 28. We made the left on runway 4 and recrossed runway 28 to taxiway U, then out to runway 28. The controller asked 'didn't you see the lights?' (meaning the hold short lights). We couldn't remember seeing them. (My attention was divided between my taxi out duties and observing the taxi route -- which I'll now change as much as I can to observing the taxi.) it is a confusing intersection. The captain called and talked to ATC supervisor in bwi, and he said it was no problem, and that it had happened before at that intersection. I wonder if they might consider painting on that taxiway in big bright orange letters 'hold' or 'runway 28.' that might really help and wouldn't be too expensive would it?

Title: B727 ACFT TAXIING TO RWY 28 AT BWI, FLC MISSED TXWY TURN AND INADVERTENTLY CROSSED RWY 28.
Narrative: WHILE TAXIING OUT FOR TKOF IN BWI, WE WERE ASSIGNED RWY 28 FOR DEP. WE WERE ON TXWY A APCHING TXWY E, WHERE WE SHOULD HAVE MADE A L ON TXWY P TO GO OUT TO RWY 28. I WAS ACCOMPLISHING MY TAXI FLOW AND FINALIZING OUR DEP WT AND SPDS ON TXWY A, AND LOOKED FORWARD AS WE APCHED TXWY E. THE CAPT AND FO WERE VERY VIGILANT FOR TFC ON FINAL, AND INSTEAD OF MAKING OUR L ON TXWY P, WE CONTINUED STRAIGHT AHEAD ON TXWY E AND CROSSED RWY 28. WE REALIZED WHAT WE DID BUT BEFORE WE COULD SAY ANYTHING THE GND CTLR TOLD US THAT WE HAD CROSSED RWY 28 INSTEAD OF MAKING THE L ON TXWY P. THERE WERE NO ACFT ON FINAL OR TAKING OFF ON RWY 28. WE MADE THE L ON RWY 4 AND RECROSSED RWY 28 TO TXWY U, THEN OUT TO RWY 28. THE CTLR ASKED 'DIDN'T YOU SEE THE LIGHTS?' (MEANING THE HOLD SHORT LIGHTS). WE COULDN'T REMEMBER SEEING THEM. (MY ATTN WAS DIVIDED BTWN MY TAXI OUT DUTIES AND OBSERVING THE TAXI RTE -- WHICH I'LL NOW CHANGE AS MUCH AS I CAN TO OBSERVING THE TAXI.) IT IS A CONFUSING INTXN. THE CAPT CALLED AND TALKED TO ATC SUPVR IN BWI, AND HE SAID IT WAS NO PROB, AND THAT IT HAD HAPPENED BEFORE AT THAT INTXN. I WONDER IF THEY MIGHT CONSIDER PAINTING ON THAT TXWY IN BIG BRIGHT ORANGE LETTERS 'HOLD' OR 'RWY 28.' THAT MIGHT REALLY HELP AND WOULDN'T BE TOO EXPENSIVE WOULD IT?
