Narrative:
We were cleared for takeoff on the arthur kill 2 departure from ewr at night (XA10). We briefed the SID before takeoff. Because of the poor lighting, I didn't notice that when I checked the heading to turn to I had accidentally flipped the page to the ewr 6 departure. The 2 sids are almost identical. After takeoff at the 2.3 DME, I inadvertently turned to heading 220 degrees instead of heading 260 degrees to intercept the solberg 100 degree radial. The controller brought the situation to our attention, gave us a heading to solberg. There was no apparent traffic conflict. I was in error for not doublechking the proper SID. The poor lighting was a contributing factor.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CREW RECEIVED A PLT NAV SID FROM ATC BUT ACCIDENTALLY FLEW A SIMILAR SID REQUIRING VECTORS. ERROR NOT NOTICED UNTIL CREW TURNED TO AN INCORRECT HDG AND WAS ADVISED BY ATC.
Narrative: WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF ON THE ARTHUR KILL 2 DEP FROM EWR AT NIGHT (XA10). WE BRIEFED THE SID BEFORE TKOF. BECAUSE OF THE POOR LIGHTING, I DIDN'T NOTICE THAT WHEN I CHKED THE HDG TO TURN TO I HAD ACCIDENTALLY FLIPPED THE PAGE TO THE EWR 6 DEP. THE 2 SIDS ARE ALMOST IDENTICAL. AFTER TKOF AT THE 2.3 DME, I INADVERTENTLY TURNED TO HDG 220 DEGS INSTEAD OF HDG 260 DEGS TO INTERCEPT THE SOLBERG 100 DEG RADIAL. THE CTLR BROUGHT THE SIT TO OUR ATTN, GAVE US A HDG TO SOLBERG. THERE WAS NO APPARENT TFC CONFLICT. I WAS IN ERROR FOR NOT DOUBLECHKING THE PROPER SID. THE POOR LIGHTING WAS A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR.
