Narrative:
While on a VFR flight, I observed oil on the windscreen left cowling, and left wing root. I also noticed what seemed to be abnormal fuel consumption. The engine had 9 hours since a major overhaul. I made a precautionary landing on a stretch of unopened interstate at mountain home, ar, without injury or damage. After checking the oil level and taking on fuel, the flight was completed uneventfully. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: pilot states that he found a leaking propeller seal after landing. Local police and sheriff's emergency equipment responded to the site. Following an engine inspection, the pilot taxied the aircraft to a section of the closed highway more suitable for takeoff. Pilot states that he was given follow-up training on the engine fuel and lubricating system.
