Narrative:

My student and I were on climb out, ascending to 2000 ft MSL, when, at 2.5-3 NM west of hwo off runway 27R at 1200 ft MSL, I took control of the airplane. I banked left, approximately 45 degrees, then right, then left again and rolled level, all the while maintaining a constant heading (rapid rolls). Behind me, which I could not see, was a C182 on climb out from the same runway. As I was performing these rapid rolls (approximately 45 degree bank), the C182 was overtaking us (DA20 katana) at a greater speed. The C182 had to make evasive maneuver to avoid us. It is my assumption that he found it necessary to take such action because he did not know which way, if any, I was going to turn.

Title: NMAC BTWN AN SEL SMA KATANA AND A C182 BOTH CLBING OUT FROM DEP RWY AT APPROX 1200 FT MSL. THE C182 OVERTOOK THE KATANA AND MADE AN EVASIVE ACTION TURN TO AVOID THE RPTR WHO WAS MAKING ROLLING BANKS TO THE R AND L. THE C182 PLT MAY HAVE BEEN ALARMED AS TO WHAT DIRECTION THE KATANA WOULD END UP GOING BECAUSE OF ITS 45 DEG BANKING TURNS.

Narrative: MY STUDENT AND I WERE ON CLBOUT, ASCENDING TO 2000 FT MSL, WHEN, AT 2.5-3 NM W OF HWO OFF RWY 27R AT 1200 FT MSL, I TOOK CTL OF THE AIRPLANE. I BANKED L, APPROX 45 DEGS, THEN R, THEN L AGAIN AND ROLLED LEVEL, ALL THE WHILE MAINTAINING A CONSTANT HEADING (RAPID ROLLS). BEHIND ME, WHICH I COULD NOT SEE, WAS A C182 ON CLBOUT FROM THE SAME RWY. AS I WAS PERFORMING THESE RAPID ROLLS (APPROX 45 DEG BANK), THE C182 WAS OVERTAKING US (DA20 KATANA) AT A GREATER SPD. THE C182 HAD TO MAKE EVASIVE MANEUVER TO AVOID US. IT IS MY ASSUMPTION THAT HE FOUND IT NECESSARY TO TAKE SUCH ACTION BECAUSE HE DID NOT KNOW WHICH WAY, IF ANY, I WAS GOING TO TURN.
