Narrative:
Descent from 15000 ft to 10000 ft. Overshot 10000 ft and descended to 9600 ft and recovered to 10000 ft. Autoplt was armed for leveloff at 10000 ft and failed to level off. Disconnected autoplt and executed a manually flown leveloff at 10000 ft. Improved reliability of the autoplt system and less reliance on the autoplt for leveloff may help prevent future altitude excursions.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR FLC OVERSHOT THEIR ASSIGNED ALT IN DSCNT. ALT AUTO CAPTURE DID NOT FUNCTION AS ANTICIPATED.
Narrative: DSCNT FROM 15000 FT TO 10000 FT. OVERSHOT 10000 FT AND DSNDED TO 9600 FT AND RECOVERED TO 10000 FT. AUTOPLT WAS ARMED FOR LEVELOFF AT 10000 FT AND FAILED TO LEVEL OFF. DISCONNECTED AUTOPLT AND EXECUTED A MANUALLY FLOWN LEVELOFF AT 10000 FT. IMPROVED RELIABILITY OF THE AUTOPLT SYS AND LESS RELIANCE ON THE AUTOPLT FOR LEVELOFF MAY HELP PREVENT FUTURE ALT EXCURSIONS.
