Narrative:
While taxiing the aircraft for purposes of reposition/refuel the right wingtip struck a road sign located on the shoulder of a combination taxiway/roadway at lake hood. Contributing factors were a change in roadway/taxiway design. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter states that the problem in this incident is that the aircraft was kept at lake hood for 25 yrs and the txwys were used by both vehicles and aircraft during that time. The aircraft has been kept at a different airport for 5 yrs and the roadway/taxiway changes were made 2 yrs ago. Reporter landed and taxied as he had in the past. Every sign in the area is 3 ft high except for 2 signs which indicated stop -- aircraft crossing. These signs are 8-10 ft high. Aircraft wingtip hit one of these signs. Reporter was informed that the taxiway changes were made because people were frequently driving into aircraft with moving propellers on the dual use roads/txwys.
