Narrative:

We had been cleared to 7000 ft by bay approach and at 7800 ft the TCASII alerted us to traffic at 7000 ft. My first officer was flying and I took the controls and stopped the descent at 7700 ft. At the same time I stopped the descent, bay approach told us to maintain 8000 ft. I told approach that we had a visual on the traffic and that we were climbing back up to 8000 ft. The traffic was flying in the opposite direction at 7000 ft approximately 1/4 to 1/2 mi away. The controller did not say anything about the incident.
