Narrative:
Air carrier X on departure and air carrier Y on missed approach. Air carrier Y on vector west of lax with expectation of turning north for sequencing back to downwind. Run down list of lax departures showed no planned departures from either complex. Air carrier Y is turned to a heading of 330 degrees and climbed from 2000 ft MSL to 5000 ft MSL, at a point 5 mi west of lax. As air carrier Y completes his turn and is leaving 3000 ft a data tag displays and a check in call is made by air carrier X. Air carrier X was an unexpected departure since there were no planned departures in the run down checklist. Air carrier X is approximately 5 mi west of lax and reports level at 3000 ft. Although courses of air carrier X and air carrier Y have diverged, separation is 1.5 mi horizontal.
