Narrative:

I departed one airport for akiak, ak, a distance of 5 NM. Contrary to operations manual I entered a dogleg final to the runway and visually cleared the strip of obstacles. There is construction at the airport reducing usable landing distance to about 1500 ft. I approached the threshold at low altitude and passed within 50 ft of workers adjacent to the runway.
