Narrative:
Flight xyz jul/tue/98. We were cleared to line up and wait on runway 8R without condition and that is what the first officer read back. After we were on the runway the local controller advised us that we should not have taken the runway until after the landing traffic. No one on the crew heard the condition and the local controller had no comment on the first officer's readback. 2 aircraft were sent around before we were cleared for takeoff. I feel that conditional takeoffs should be banned. Also on this flight, while taxiing out there was a problem getting a taxi clearance from ground control. I may have taxied off the apron too soon because there is a poorly marked stop point.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF A B727 TAXIED INTO POS AND HELD ON THE RWY FOR TKOF SINCE THAT IS WHAT THE CREW THOUGHT THE TWR CTLR INSTRUCTED. HOWEVER, IT WAS A MISUNDERSTANDING CAUSING THE CTLR TO SEND TWO OTHER ACFT AROUND.
Narrative: FLT XYZ JUL/TUE/98. WE WERE CLRED TO LINE UP AND WAIT ON RWY 8R WITHOUT CONDITION AND THAT IS WHAT THE FO READ BACK. AFTER WE WERE ON THE RWY THE LCL CTLR ADVISED US THAT WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TAKEN THE RWY UNTIL AFTER THE LNDG TFC. NO ONE ON THE CREW HEARD THE CONDITION AND THE LCL CTLR HAD NO COMMENT ON THE FO'S READBACK. 2 ACFT WERE SENT AROUND BEFORE WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF. I FEEL THAT CONDITIONAL TKOFS SHOULD BE BANNED. ALSO ON THIS FLT, WHILE TAXIING OUT THERE WAS A PROB GETTING A TAXI CLRNC FROM GND CTL. I MAY HAVE TAXIED OFF THE APRON TOO SOON BECAUSE THERE IS A POORLY MARKED STOP POINT.
