Narrative:
When transitioning from taxiway J to taxiway Z for takeoff on runway 31L at jfk, I misinterpreted the turn signage and overshot the taxiway side markers in the pavement. Aircraft remained on the pavement and was returned to the taxiway. No contact with side markers was noted. Possible contributing factors: unfamiliarity with the airport, increased cockpit workload due to taxi, runway, and departure changes, and change from taxiway lights to taxiway reflector side markers.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR ACFT OVERSHOT TXWY LIMIT LINES AT JFK.
Narrative: WHEN TRANSITIONING FROM TXWY J TO TXWY Z FOR TKOF ON RWY 31L AT JFK, I MISINTERPRETED THE TURN SIGNAGE AND OVERSHOT THE TXWY SIDE MARKERS IN THE PAVEMENT. ACFT REMAINED ON THE PAVEMENT AND WAS RETURNED TO THE TXWY. NO CONTACT WITH SIDE MARKERS WAS NOTED. POSSIBLE CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: UNFAMILIARITY WITH THE ARPT, INCREASED COCKPIT WORKLOAD DUE TO TAXI, RWY, AND DEP CHANGES, AND CHANGE FROM TXWY LIGHTS TO TXWY REFLECTOR SIDE MARKERS.
