Narrative:
IFR takeoff from crw runway 5. We were given a 360 degree heading to intercept V115 from hvq to gayed intersection. We were also given a frequency change in the same transmission. In the confusion, did not arm the navigation mode, and failed to intercept the 019 degree radial or V115. We did not realize our mistake until 7 mi left of course. We turned back to course and were subsequently cleared direct to air. No traffic conflicts were noted.

Narrative: IFR TKOF FROM CRW RWY 5. WE WERE GIVEN A 360 DEG HDG TO INTERCEPT V115 FROM HVQ TO GAYED INTXN. WE WERE ALSO GIVEN A FREQ CHANGE IN THE SAME XMISSION. IN THE CONFUSION, DID NOT ARM THE NAV MODE, AND FAILED TO INTERCEPT THE 019 DEG RADIAL OR V115. WE DID NOT REALIZE OUR MISTAKE UNTIL 7 MI L OF COURSE. WE TURNED BACK TO COURSE AND WERE SUBSEQUENTLY CLRED DIRECT TO AIR. NO TFC CONFLICTS WERE NOTED.
